Huge Ford GT Crash at 6 Hours of Spa

Circuit_Spa_2007Last week we were ecstatic that the Ford GT won the Monterey Grand Prix at Leguna Seca, but this week we come to you with some sad news.

The Ford GT has crashed in a huge way at the 6 hours of Spa.

Stefan Mücke was coming out of Spa’s infamous turn 4, Eau Rouge, when he lost control. In the video you can see that right as he hits the apex he spins around and his engine cover blows off. Usually this isn’t a big deal, but his speed and direction sent him straight in to turn 5’s tire wall, resulting in a huge debris pile across the entire track.

The Ford Chip Ganassi Racing Team believes that the car suffered a tire puncture, but that has not yet been confirmed.

Luckily Mücke came out of this wreck with only bruising according to the on track medical team. While we’re sure he’s in pain we have our fingers crossed that he will be healed and the car will be rebuilt by the time the 24 Hours of Le Mans rolls around in June.
