Cortana is Microsoft’s version of Siri or Google Voice. The virtual assistant that was specifically designed by Microsoft for their phones.
Yes, Microsoft has been in many cars for a while now – Ford, Kia, BMW, Nissan, and Fiat – but they all have been custom systems, so there was no standard.
Cortana will be a heads-up-display of sorts. It will project onto the windshield and help drivers make restaurant reservations or see favorite locations on a virtual map.
At Microsoft’s TechDays yesterday, the chief operating officer of Asia-Pacific Research, Samuel Shen, was mum on how you would use Cortana with your voice.
Shen, however, did say “we have not launched similar products due to the high cost, but we hope to have further discussions with Taiwanese partners to jointly explore future possibilities.”
There doesn’t appear to be any kind of timeline or vehicles being eyed up either. Minus the heads-up type display, this really has the potential to become so much more.
What do you think about Cortana possibly being in your future car?
