GM to pay $900 million in U.S. criminal settlement for faulty ignition switches

GM Faulty Ignition

GM admitted to failing to disclose the potentially lethal safety defect with the faulty ignition switches, which kept airbags from deploying in certain vehicles.

GM will pay $900 million and enter a deferred prosecution agreement to end the US Criminal investigation of its poor handling of recalling said ignition switches. Those ignitions have caused 125 deaths.

The settlement was disclosed in papers filed in Manhattan Federal court Thursday.
