Dodge, Dude, Stop Already

Two more recalls announced on Dodge trucks yesterday! That means four recalls in two days. Rest assured your Ram will, more than likely, have no issues soon! None! Zip. Zilch. Zero. See, when Fiat Chrysler settled with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration in July, they also agreed to hire an independent monitor, or babysitter, to make sure there are no more recall delays. Four recalls in two days tells me Fiat Chrysler’s babysitter isn’t the one who can be persuaded into letting you get away with anything you want just by paying compliments and chocolate. Nope, this babysitter is like the old lady in “Don’t Tell Mom the Babysitter’s Dead”.

Back to recalls. The first of the two covers 156,498 heavy duty trucks. Fiat Chrysler discovered some steering components “may have welds with insufficient fusion.” That can lead to separation, in turn, affecting steering response. The company said they’re not aware of any injuries but there was one minor accident. The trucks recalled are:

  • 2013 Ram 3500 pickups
  • 2014 Ram 2500/3500 pickups
  • 2014 Ran 3500 Chassis cabs

Additional numbers of 20,603 in Canada, 13,236 in Mexico, and approximately 3,241 trucks outside of North America are subject to recall.

The second recall is for a total of 188,000 2014-15 Ram 1500 Quad Cab pickups. I seriously feel for you 1500 owners. Y’all’s trucks will be at the dealer for what feels like the rest of the year! The side-curtain airbags don’t meet federal regulations and the statement doesn’t go into detail with the who/what/why/where/how of the regulations. Hmm, wonder why. Maybe the guy typing these out is as tired of it as I am of reading, let alone physically writing and typing, about it. Yes. You read that correctly. I actually write with pen and paper, and then type these posts out. It’s my process, don’t judge.

So, that appears to be the Dodge/Fiat Chrysler/Ram recall roundup. At least for today.
