Somewhere around 40 percent of all cars imported to China come through Tainjing. Last year, China imported $60.8 billion in cars.
Affected automakers [by the blast] such as Ford, Nissan, Toyota, and BMW do not know how many of their vehicles have been damaged yet.
Hyundai and Kia have around 4,000 cars damaged, but haven’t given specifics as to what extent. Mazda said 50 cars have peeling paint and scratches. They even closed a nearby dealership due to broken windows. Subaru maker Fuji Heavy Industries, LTD said over 100 cars, imported from Japan and waiting for customs clearance, all had broken windows. Volkswagen is unsure of the total but knows many have been damaged.
So far, there have been 54 deaths, including 12 firefighters, and over 700 injured from the explosions.
I’ll post updates as they become available…
