Tomy Drissi joins JGL Racing once again this weekend for the NASCAR Xfinity Series Zippo 200 at Watkins Glen (if you want to watch, it starts at 3 Eastern on NBCSN, Saturday 8/8/15).
Cool, Tomy had an awesome run last year – and he is a road course driver – so that explains why they invited him back.
Here’s the issue: this particular Toyota Camry for this particular race is sponsored by Universal Pictures new movie “Straight Outta Compton”. Tomy’s even excited to be back with JGL (and at the Glen), and he also had this to say “…And lastly, I’m excited to bring Universal Pictures to NASCAR and promote the movie, Straight Outta Compton.”
Not that this is the first time NASCAR or car owners have pulled some wacky paint scheme or sponsorship, but whose brain fell out of their head here?! For those of you unfamiliar with “Straight Outta Compton”, let me give you some background. It’s firstly an album. Then it becomes a movie (maybe 10-15 years too late, but at least it’s finally something that’s not a reboot). It’s the story of the rise and fall of the notorious rap group N.W.A. …advertised on a NASCAR. I get the whole diversity thing; been there, done that, over it, and never again (have I mentioned it wasn’t the best experience?). But what the **** is going on here?! It seems to me like they’re pushing people away, not pulling them in (especially after the whole confederate flag thing that backfired hahahahahaha!).
Either way, check these photos. I find this hilarious, amusing…and stupid, but that’s just me.
What do YOU think?
