Startech Debuts New Range Rover Inspired Pickup

Earlier today, the German tuner Startech announced that they will be debuting a brand new pickup based on the Range Rover at next week’s Shanghai Auto Show. Wow. The styling certainly is different on this variation, as it features a leaner, more aggressive front end and of course a pickup styled back end. But does it really look good?

Maybe, maybe not. It all depends on your own preference, but we do think that Andrew Collins of Jalopnik was pretty dead-on about the style when he wrote, “[It’s] a little monster like something between a cereal box toy and Megazord.”

star2Regardless of styling, this truck was developed for two primary reasons: to help fill the high-end pickup demand left vacant by lagging competitors and to deliver some serious performance.

Serious performance?? Absolutely. Underneath the hood of this freaky-ass thing is a supercharged, 5.0-liter V8 that cranks out a mean 526 hp (16 of which comes from a modified exhaust system developed by Startech). And guess how it translates on the street… well, the truck is able to zip a 0-62 time out in just 5.3 seconds, while also being able to speed out at an electronically controlled top speed of 155. Not bad for a pickup, huh?

This Startech Range Rover doesn’t just stop there, though. They have put a lot of time and energy into the luxuriousness and comfort of the ride. Startech says, “The interior, which was likewise given a new look in the company upholstery shop, sparkles with a mix of the finest leather, Alcantara and carbon-fiber elements precisely color-coordinated with the exterior.”

Currently, there are no details on how how many of these vehicles will be built or how much they will cost. But we will soon find out when it is officially unveiled at the Shanghai Auto Show next week.

So, what do you think of the new truck? Love it or hate it?
