Heading into this week, auto enthusiasts were falling over themselves to see the brand-new Lincoln Continental. Well, today, the first official images and details of the car were released. And guess what… the new Continental lives up to the hype.
As far as the style goes, the powerful and serene ride somehow manages to find the perfect blend between modernity and paying tribute to the classic appeal that has long made the Continental a legend. For the modern touches, the new Lincoln features E-latch door handles, 30-way seats, a premium Revel audi system, LED matric headlights with laser-assist high beams, and a new SPD SmartGlass tinting sunroof.
When it comes to its classic appeal, the new Continental also features a chrome-trimmed shoulder line that is reminiscent of the 1960s 4th generation Continental. Adding to the retro look is, of course, the mesh grille, a staple that has been thrown out as of late but look awesome on the new debut.
The style and luxury doesn’t stop there, either. The official press release also adds, “Inside are the brand’s most sensual materials ever, including Venetian leather seat and door panels, Alcantara® seat inserts and armrests, satin headliner and shearling wool carpet. Rose Gold trim around the instrument cluster provides warmth. Bright chrome trim on the instrument panel adds contrast.”
One of the big questions for the new Continental, however, was: what would be powering this thing?? Well, that was answered, as well, and it turns out that Ford is sticking with their favored setup– giving the Lincoln a 3.0-liter EcoBoost. In addition to that, the car also features drive control ride-enhancing technologies and adaptive steer, as well as Pre-Collision Assist with Pedestrian Detection, Enhanced Park Assist, and a 360-degree camera that displays on the MyLincoln Touch screen.
“The Lincoln Continental name is associated with iconic beauty and elegance,” said Lincoln’s design director David Woodhouse. “Capturing those qualities and building upon them drove us as we crafted this thoroughly modern sedan concept.”
