Yesterday, Ford announced that they will be recalling approximately 220,000 vehicles for potential defects with door handles, vacuum pump relays, and sensors. The vehicles impacted by this recall include:
- 2011-2013 Ford Explorer SUVs
- 2011-2013 Ford Police Interceptor utility vehicles
- 2013-2015 Lincoln MKT limo and hearse vehicles
- 2011-2015 F-Series Super Duty ambulance vehicles
The biggest of these recalls involves the Ford Explorer SUV. According tot he company, approximately 212,000 Explorers are being recalled because a spring that controls the door handle may become loose and cause the door to fly open during side-impact collisions, increasing the risk of injury.
The rest of the recalls are relatively small in numbers, but far more serious in regards to safety. For example, Ford’s recall of the Lincoln MKT limos and hearses involves a malfunction associated with the vacuum pump relay, which could cause a fire under the hood of the vehicle.
Ford has said that there have been no reported injuries or deaths related to any of the vehicles, and this is strictly precautionary.
