Yesterday, Youtube user Ken Roberts released a 40 second video of a mysterious glowing orb blazing across the southern California sky. In the video, the unusual object leaves a long trail behind it that is often associated with space debris or meteorites that burn up in the earth’s atmosphere.

In an interview with The Daily Mail, Ben Biggs– the editor of All About Space magazine– says, “I think it could be something re-entering and bits coming off it. Could it be a meteorite? It’s a bit slow to be one as they normally travel much faster through the atmosphere, although we are at the peak of the Quadrantids meteor shower.”
“It could also simply be some clever photoshop, especially considering there don’t seem to be any other videos of the event which would surely have been seen by many people. Also, California is right next to Nevada, home of the top secret base inside Area 51. There’s always a chance that this is some military project gone awry.”
As to be expected, some of this peculiarities in the video have led some to question “normal” logic and ask the million dollar question. Could this be evidence of a UFO?
The main reason for the conspiracy-laced speculation stems from a second round object (seen about halfway through the video) that breaks off from the main fireball and floats in the opposite direction across the sky.
The internet’s resident nut job “UFO expert” websites have, not surprisingly, taken off with the speculation. The Inquisitir wonders if the second object could possibly be an “alien escape pod,” while Open Minds says, “It is peculiar for a single object to drift away from a meteorite, then, allegedly, fly ‘straight up into the sky… The smaller orb UFO in this video behaves differently than typical meteorite debris.
The uploader adds to the inflammatory speculation by saying,
I was driving home after work when this UFO or whatever you call it caught my eye. I pulled over in front of somebody’s house to film it. I would have got a better shot but I didn’t want to jump these peoples fence. Anyway I don’t know what the hell to make of it. Couldn’t have been a plane cause there was no noise. And I never heard a crash after either. The Orb thing flew straight up into the sky and disappeared. Sorry I didn’t film that. I didn’t know what to focus my attention on.
So what do you think? Possible evidence for a legitimate UFO, or just conspiracy crack rocks?
