Way back in 1977, the screen’s greatest villain came to life when Darth Vader brought death and destruction to the original Star Wars. His jet black, full body suit was intimidating. His brute strength, both mental and physical, was really intimidating.
But he was missing one thing that would have really brought the whole package together. A bad ass, intimidating as hell ride!!
Fortunately, for any Star Wars lover out there, Hot Wheels has quelled this travesty by releasing a Darth Vader car, which will officially be unveiled in public today at the Sand Diego Comic-Con.
According to reports, the new “official” Darth Vader car is built using the guts of a Corvette C5 and is shaped to resemble the classic Darth Vader helmet with a nose made of carbon fiber. If that wasn’t enough, it turns out that the car will also feature:
- Darth Vader’s distinctive breathing
- A tuned LS3 V8 engine that produces 526 horsepower
- Back lit side exhaust pipes that are modeled to imitate the classic lightsaber
- A custom set of MHT wheels
- A dashboard that looks like the interior of Darth Vader’s helmet.
Matel has said that the vehicle can travel up to 80 miles per hour, but obviously, this car wasn’t exactly built with speed in mind. Instead, it’s a long overdue shout out to Darth Vader and an attempt to round out his villainous form. More importantly, though, it’s a clever marketing campaign to get people excited for the BRAND NEW Star Wars, which is set to be released in 2015.
