Originally debuting in 1900, the New York Auto Show was North America’s first ever automotive exhibition. Today, it is still as big as ever, and companies prepare all year for a great showing at the event.
Of course, tomorrow marks the beginning of this historic, highly anticipated, drool provoking event. And man, oh man, am I excited.
Each year, onlookers get to witness the unveiling and showcasing of some of the most innovative and coolest vehicles in the world. In anticipation of this year’s event, I am bringing you some of the most anticipated and rumored vehicles that will be shown at this year’s event. Enjoy!!!
1. The Kia GT-4 Stinger
After flaunting this vehicle at the Detroit Auto Show, Kia- South Korea’s oldest car company- will once again be showcasing the Kia GT-4 Stinger. This car has the potential to take Kia in a wild sports car direction, but the company is downplaying that possibility. In a recent press release, Kia said, “There are currently no plans to bring the concept to production.”
Even though they are downplaying the possibility, Kia HAS been known to build variations of concept cars in the past. Well, let’s hope this is the case for this bad boy. The Kia Stinger features a 315-horsepower 2.0 Liter turbocharged 4-cylinder engine that would be the envy of any man.
2. 2015 Chevrolet Corvette Z06
Scheduled to go on sale in early 2015, the Chevy Corvette Z06 is one of the most anticipated vehicles at this year’s show. This two-seater will feature a rear transaxle and a front mounted pushrod 6.2 Liter V* engine that is capable of producing 625 horsepower!! IN fact, this Corvette will be the fastest production ‘vette to ever hit the pavement. As Matthew McConaughey once said, “Alright, alright, alright.”
This vehicle has already been showcased at a few other auto shows, but in New York, it will be displayed for the first time with its monstrous engine. The hand built engine will be a twin-turbo-charged, 5.5 Liter V8 that produces a whopping 577 horsepower and 664 pound-feet of torque.
Making this car even better is the fact that it mixes this insane power with an extremely classy sensibility. Autoblog writer Steven J. Ewing agrees, “The 2015 Mercedes-Benz S-Class Coupe is gorgeous. That’s a fact.”
4. The 2015 BMW i8
This futuristic sports car could have come right out of a Phillip K. Dick story. BMW is hyping this hybrid vehicle as the “first real sustainable sports car.” It will feature a front-mounted electric motor and a turbocharged 3-cylinder engine that will propel the vehicle from 0-60 in just 4.4 seconds. According to reports, this $135,000 car will be able to drive up to 22 miles at a time on electric power.
5. Cadillac Elmiraj
This vicious looking car looks like it came straight from Bruce Wayne’s garage. It features a 4.5 Liter twin turbocharged V8 that delivers 500 horsepower. Talk about a break from its strictly luxury reputation. Mark Adams says, “Elmiraj advances Cadillac’s provocative modern design and performance, contrasted with bespoke craftsmanship and luxury. It explores performance driving, as well as how we’re approaching elevating the Cadillac range and new dimensions of Art & Science philosophy.”
