The World’s Fastest Lawnmower

hankBelieve it or not, there are actually people out there competing to build the world’s fastest lawnmower. Oh, how Hank Hill would be proud!!! The only regulations when building this souped up ride is that it:

1. Still needs to be able to cut grass and function as a lawnmower

2. Make two passes around the course, so an average speed could be taken

3.  It must still look like a lawnmower

Well, today Honda’s team of engineers finally garnered the big world record after months and years of having fun and goofing off.  Their lawnmower clocked in at an astonishing 116 miles per hour. Holy POSSUM BALLS Batman!!

The Honda lawn mower was souped up with a 1000 cc Honda superbike engine, six speed transmission, a racing seat, high performance ATV tires, and a fiberglass cutting deck to reduce weight. According to Honda, the mower produces 109 horsepower and 71 pound-feet of torque. But possibly the most amazing feature of the mower is its astounding 4.0 second 0-60 time.

This redneck dream mower broke the previous world record of 96.529 miles per hour, which was set by Bobby Cleveland on a Snapper race mower in 2010. And Cleveland has some problems with the new Honda record. He says, “If I wanted to, I could put a motorcycle engine in my mower, but I feel really good about what I did.” Back in 2010, it turns out that Cleveland set the record with a ride that only featured standard lawnmower parts. Now, that’s what I call impressive!!!

But don’t worry too much about Cleveland; he isn’t sulking about his lost world record. Today, Cleveland is keeping himself busy by participating in shows around the country showing off his once legendary mower. Actually, that is kind of depressing. He sounds like the former rock star who has been reduced to playing children’s birthday parties.
